Not only is there new art on basic lands with almost every new set, but the layout of the cards themselves has shifted over the years as well. The 3rd row are another set of lands set on the Battlebond plane although these are the Version 2 MagicFest Promo lands. An Arena promo set had been released every year from the first offerings in Mirage but until this one they all had reprints of old art on them just in foil. The copyright for Magic: the Gathering and all associated card names and card images is held by Wizards of the Coast.

Like the other "Un" sets, Unstable isn't legal in most official events, but its wacky shenanigans offer completely unique battles for casual play. The lands have a regular name box but the mana symbol of the text box and the type line are conflated into one at the bottom of the card. A land with multiple basic land types has each corresponding ability and can tap for any of the appropriate colors. While this is a lovely flavour win it is a shame as there are some really cool things going on in these planes and we have so few lands from each to play with.The Planeswalker sparks driving their way toward Nicol Bolas, Dragon God show up real nice against the darker background, and the fires of war spring out just as well. Double Masters VIP Editions contain new printings of five Battle for Zendikar full-art basics and five Unhinged full-art basics, both in a slightly modified frame.

Intro packs on the other hand have normally styled lands as they have appeared in the majority of large expansions. These cards had extended artwork inside an oval frame stretching from the top to bottom of the card. Cards printed in sets prior to the Eighth Edition core set didn’t use the word “basic” to indicate a basic land. My belief is that the Pokemon TCG basic energies SHOULD cost the same as MTG basic lands, as in, they hold no value at all.In such an attempt I was always going to pay homage to one of my favourite aspects of the game - the lands. They allowed us to think of the land types in a more abstract and creative way and this is a huge win for the flavour overall. The Crimson Vow bundles actually came with a bunch of these lands in foil and non foil, which makes getting a thematic manabase together is pretty easy. Cards from those sets with the following names are basic lands and have received errata in the Oracle card reference accordingly: Forest, Island, Mountain, Plains, Swamp, Snow-Covered Forest, Snow-Covered Island, Snow-Covered Mountain, Snow-Covered Plains, and Snow-Covered Swamp. Formerly a competitive Pokémon TCG grinder, she has been playing Magic since Shadows Over Innistrad, which in her opinion, was a great set to start with.
